CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:
Author Carolyn Arnold created an intense crime drama in Power Struggle. Giving Madison many issues to overcome, her character’s realistic and believable. After all, who wouldn’t have problems with flashbacks and emotional trauma after her ordeal she experienced. Not only did the trauma affect her mentally, but she’s also suffering physical problems. A strong, smart, and determined woman, Madison’s frighted of Romanov’s capacity for cruelty. Madison has found love with Troy and worries for his and her friend’s safety; however, will their love survive this case? Does she believe in their love will last the long haul?
Romanov plays cat and mouse games with Madison. Who will win? Madison’s emotionally involved in this case; at times recklessly. Will her objectivity become clouded by her emotions and the trauma she endured at Romanov’s hands? Everyone’s giving Madison grief; from her sister, Troy, Terry, to her superior. Regardless, she will not hide from Romanov; as he leaves bodies in his wake, she races to find him. Arnold‘s Power Struggle, with gritty, hard-boiled, down and dirty believable action, shows law enforcement at their finest. As well as, the struggle to overcome a devastating experience, Arnold shows how the aftermath affects fellow law enforcement officers, friends, and family. Carolyn Arnold included family dynamics in Power Struggle, which added depth to the story.
Arnold kept the suspense at high peak throughout. Power Struggle will keep you on the edge of your seat. I found Arnold‘s characters well-developed; along with writing which is easy to follow. She paced and plotted this book well; filling it with action, suspense, human drama, twists and turns, and police procedural; keeping me glued to the pages of this book. With many plot threads, Arnold brought all the threads together to form an intense crime story. I would not hesitate to buy this book for myself or a friend.
