Hannah’s attracted to Isaac Roth.  Isaac’s sweet, always laughing, has deep faith, and sees wonder in everything.  But, Isaac has a problem;  he’s slow.   Although slow in speech and thought, Isaac has a pure heart.  He’s different from the other boys and his mother worries if he will ever find someone who can compliment him.  Will Isaac and Hannah form the perfect combination?  Will Hannah realize her mistake in dealing with people, let go, and let God take control?

The Leftover By Brooke Williams

STORY-LINE THE LEFTOVER BY BROOKE WILLIAMS:

Megan Malone’s a quite homebody.  She never did well with people, preferring to stay in her house, work at her home business, and let the world go by.  Her sister, Molly, persuades Megan to take her place on the new local reality television show, The Leftover.  A show similar to Survivor, Megan knows she has no skills to offer.

Cane’s the medic for the show.  Once a contestant on Accept This Dandelion, he’s trying to heal a broken heart.  He thought they had fallen in love, however, in the last episode, his wonderful world collapsed as his love ran off with the producer/host of the show.  He hopes time from his job, new surrounding, and people, help heal his hurting heart.

Megan, sweet, quite, shy, and a loner, meets her crush from Accept This Dandelion;  while Cane finds a shy young women who will not meet his eyes.  With all the different personalities, will Cane find his heart healing?  Will Megan find a way to come out of her shell and take part?  Let the fun begin as the contestants vie for position of the last person left standing.  My romance book reviews of The Leftover by Brooke Williams follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, AND DEVELOPMENT:

Author Brooke Williams, created an entertaining book in The Leftover.  Having read other books with this story-line, I thought I would not care to read another book with the same old theme.  However, I’m thrilled to say, I loved this book.  Including a variety of personalities, scheming in the background, back stabbing galore, conniving, some good people, some really obnoxious,  arrogant selfish ones, and then to round out the contestants, sweet shy Megan.  Developing each of her characters to their full potential, I found myself hating Andrew;  he’s arrogant, egotistical, and a bully.  What a character Brooke Williams crafted in Andrew.  I wanted to “tell him off” during most of the book.  Other characters you will love;  as each proves they are good people and better friends.

The Adventures Of Harry Morgan By Clabe Polk

The Adventures Of Harry Morgan
The Adventures Of Harry Morgan

STORY-LINE THE ADVENTURES OF HARRY MORGAN BY CLABE POLK:

Adventures of Harry Morgan has 3 stories, all with our main man Harry as the lead character; the stories are interconnecting. The first 2 blend together and the last story features Harry and friends.

Collegial Conspiracy Part 1

In Collegial Conspiracy, we find a retired Harry.  But Harry’s retirement is anything but quite.  When his old friend, Wiley Middleton contacts him with a request, Harry doesn’t know how to say no.  Wiley’s dying from an inoperable brain tumor.  He doesn’t want to leave his wife, Amanda, in debt nor watching him die.  Wiley left home, leaving Amanda a note, asking her not to look for him.

His one request of Harry; well it’s a dilly.  Wiley wants Harry to help him rob a bank.  Fascinated with Bonnie and Clyde, Wiley’s determined to go to jail for the medical care.  Harry reluctantly agrees.  However, when Amanda contacts Harry’s wife, Jean, for help finding Wiley, he’s in a pickle of lies and conspiracies.  Then when Wiley’s “never do well” son, Tony, shows up, things really get complicated.

Emilio Part 2

Amanda and Wiley’s son, Tony, left Oregon just ahead of the law.  Harry finds himself playing detective after Tony tells his tale of woe.  A campus police officer, Tony became involved with a two drug addicts who committed suicide.  Harry will find himself in another pickle as the suicide turns into much more and ends up smack dab next to the bank robbery case; you could say rubbing elbow with the robbery case.  Amanda ask Harry to help prove Tony’s innocent.  Simple you say; not so much.  Suddenly things ramp up as they discover the overdose and suicide may not be as simple as it seems.  Much more’s in play, and simple turns into complicated.

Pirates Of Cayo Pelau Part 3

Harry finally purchased his dream boat.  Hoping to treasure hunt just this side of legal, Harry and friends head out on a sail and treasure hunting.  You ask how can treasure hunting turn dangerous?  Harry and friends stumble upon a slave running ring with inside connections.  A night in jail, a court appearance, and release on bail, do not slow Harry down.  Harry’s determined to free the slaves and bring the criminals to justice.  Yes, he’s in a pickle again.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

When I started this book, I thought I would not like the story.  Wow, was I wrong.  In a matter pages, I was hooked and could not read this book fast enough.  Reviews, at times, are hard to write, this book was easy to review.  At times funny, at times sad, and at times filled with snips, snarks, one liners, plenty of action, and the unstoppable Harry.  Harry’s character’s strong, intelligent, and he’s a steadfast friend, who’s loyal and willing to go the extra mile. Although a senior citizen, he’s far from old and feeble.

I laughed and laughed as Wiley told Harry the what, when and how of his plan; and the bumbling robbery was hilarious and sad at the same time. Polk included humor, sadness, intrigue, and serious issues in this book; a combination which made a highly entertaining read.

Selfish and self-centered, Tony blames everyone except the true culprit for his problems.  He has an attitude of entitlement.  Someone’s always out to get him and the world owes him something for all his troubles.  I wanted to give him a good old-fashioned spanking and tell him to grow up.  Clabe Polk crafted a totally unlikable person in Tony.  Just when I thought he might have a few redeeming qualities, he proved me wrong.  I found myself doing a high-five when Amanda stood up to him and gave him what for.

In the third story, the action, snips, and repartee never ends. Harry’s ready to have fun and adventure. Polk grabs the reader’s attention with a fast paced action story-line.  Between the women and men, I don’t know who’s the funniest.  However, the story covers the serious crime of human trafficking.  Some of the characters are despicable and truly unlikable.  Polk skillfully showed age is not a deciding factor in the pursuit of justice.  As well as, showing as long as humans have unsavory greedy characteristics, no occupation will be safe from corruption.

The Adventures of Harry Morgan, a fast paced book filled with emotion, action, intrigue, mystery, and criminal activity, will hold your attention from start to finish.  With well-developed realistic characters and plots which are believable, Polk created a fine mystery crime book.  You will love the “old farts” as one criminal termed them and the unsavory characters you will love to hate. Polk included a variety, from bigots and drug dealers to slave runners in these three stories.

I found Clabe Polk’s writing style flowed well with scenes which transition smoothly from scene to scene; making The Adventures of Harry Morgan easy to read and enjoyable.   Perfect for a lazy afternoon of reading in your favorite chair with a beverage by your side; sit back and enjoy The Adventure Of Harry Morgan.  I would not hesitate to buy this book for myself or a friend.

Request For Help With Benefit by Christian Author Kari L. Trumbo

REQUEST FROM

Kari L. Trumbo

Historical Christian Romance Author

A benefit for James “Ticky-Man” Bailey.

My godson James, aged four and a half, was diagnosed with DIPG, Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, about a month ago. Since then, he’s struggled with losing mobility on his right side and has gone from incredibly articulate to struggling with communication. The tumor affects breathing and blood pressure. It almost exclusively occurs in children. He has to undergo daily radiation treatments. It is for this reason that this week, from 7/23/17 to 7/29/17, I am donating every cent of my royalties to the Bailey family.

I have set up a page where you can select any of my available books, so shopping is easy.

If you have all of my books, or aren’t interested at this time, I’ve also included the GoFundMe link. If you simply can’t help right now, can you share this with others? Clicking on either image will take you to the page and you can share directly from there. Thank you in advance for your help.

DIPG is currently a terminal diagnosis, but any funds remaining will go to fund research for DIPG.

Thank you.

Kari L. Trumbo

From the GoFundMe page:

If you ever met James he would steel your heart in a minute with his uplifting personality and his charming wink. He brightens any room with his contagious belly laugh and fearless attitude. On June 29th our world came crashing down around us when we received the news that our beautiful 4 1/2 year old boy was diagnosed with Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). This is a rare, inoperable brain tumor which is found on the Pons region of the brain stem. This is the part of the brain which controls many critical functions including breathing and blood pressure and this kind of tumor occurs almost exclusively in children. Unfortunately due to its rarity scientists do not know what causes the DIPG tumor, have a cure or even a better treatment option than radiation to this region of the brain. Because of the DIPG tumor the left side of James body has been effected, making it very hard for our once fiercely independent boy to walk on his own as well as use his left arm and hand. It has also effected his speech. James, who once had a very advanced and articulate vocabulary has now slipped backwards in his communication and fights to speak he way he once did. We are strating a fund to help with medical expenses and will be donating the remaining funds to help in the research of DIPG.

Benefit will run from July 23, 2017 – July 29, 2017. Click on the cover of any of the books below for more information. If my books are not your cuppa joe, here is a link to James’s GoFundMe page.

Hog Killing Day On The Farm

STOP:  IF YOU ARE AN ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVIST, EMOTIONAL, OR TENDER-HEARTED, PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS POST.  THIS IS THE DESCRIPTION OF THE SLAUGHTERING OF HOGS FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION AS IT WAS DONE ON FAMILY FARMS ALL OVER THIS COUNTRY FOR MANY DECADES!

We were poor country people; no different than anyone else in our small community.  We grew what we ate and shopped at a country store on credit for what we could not grow.

The pork and beef you buy in those beautiful packages at the grocery and meat market has to be slaughtered and packed at a processing plant.  We did not have this luxury when I was a girl.  We had to slaughter and process our own meat to feed the family.

Life on a tobacco farm was hard back-breaking work.

I grew up in the South during a time when tobacco was King.  Everyone we knew grew, harvested, and cured tobacco in eastern rural North Carolina.

It was our cash crop and the only way of making a living for our families.  This was before we knew how harmful tobacco products were to our health.

We rose early on the farm when tobacco season was in full swing.  My father would rise around 4 in the

It is So Cold

Well, folks, here on the crystal coast the temperature dropped to 18 degrees last night. Cold is an understatement.  Ivera at hoover dam am starting a new book for review today, The Skeleton In The Closet by Angie Fox.  As everyone knows,  she is a very talented author.  I love her books and can’t wait to read this one.

I hope to post the review by week’s end, that is, if live doesn’t interfere.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday yesterday celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Did anyone do anything special?  Give us a shout out!

Will post again later this week with process.

Hello Everyone

This week I am in Raleigh NC with my hubby, attending a conference for his job.

I am reading a wonderful book by Brad Meltzer. If you like a good political thriller, then Meltzer is your man.  Murder, old secrets, a President that is not fit for job he is so disgusting, political intrigue, a secret organization, betrayal by friends, this book has it all.  I hope to finish it either today or tomorrow and will post asap.

I hope to post a recipe for the round up I use on Friday. I found it on the internet, but can not remember the site it was on.  It works very well.  If anyone recognizes the recipe and it is yours or you know the site it came from, let me know and I will post credit.

I am trying a new DIY toothpaste also, I don’t want to post this until I have tried it for a few months as it is supposed to cure cavities, yes, you read that right, well, we will see as I have one a tooth.

I am off to read some more of the Meltzer book.

Hello World

How is everyone on this HOT HOT Wednesday?

I am late with this week’s review because the book I was reviewing had editing problems. Soooooo, I gave up, it was too distracting. Good story but pages were in the wrong places and other things.

I have started a new book and hope to have it up before the week ends.

Stay cool, remember to hydrate as much as possible in this heat.

Wear light color clothing (at least thats what my mama always said)

Remember our pets are just as hot as we are, leave them plenty of water and place them in a shaded area if you cannot bring them inside. Check on them frequently and, as always,  have your vets phone number handy in case it is needed.

Hello Everyone

I started a new book today.  Due to doctors appointments the next several days, I can’t post my review as quickly. I will post as soon as possible.

Nascar race was good yesterday.  My boy, Junior did not do very well, but, hey, that’s ok he’s still my man.  Just one time I would love for the radio announcers to call the televised race. I love how excited the radio broadcasters get calling the race, can you imagine seeing what they call! No, I can’t put the radio on the tv, it’s too big and it would drive me crazy to hear the race from one part of the room and see it in another.

I need to make more shampoo and hair conditioner, I will post those recipes soon. I also make a good hair spray, very simple and works great for pennies rather than dollars. I will so post a few sites for lots of DIY recipes.

It is time to make my DIY weed killer, works great, I will also post that soon. Only thing I have found it will not kill is poison oak and sumac.  Boy, poison oak and sumac are tough.

Will post again soon

Finished my latest book, Finally His Bride, the review follows.
My next book is a little longer than some, it will take me a little longer to read, but it sounds like a goody.
