STORY-LINE A BEAUTY FOR THE SCARRED DUKE BY BRIDGET BARTON:

Isabella Tate and Elliot Covington, The Duke of Coldwell, have starring roles in author Bridget Barton‘s latest historical Regency novel, A Beauty For the Scarred Duke.  As children,Isabella and her best friend Esme, told stories of the monster who lived in the old mansion.  A monster who lived in the same county they do.

Elliot, The Duke of Coldwell, scarred for life by fire, lived in seclusion for eighteen years;  alone and grieving the ones he loved.  He’s the monster Isabella and Esme spoke of.  Elliott’s a scarred lonely man.  He isolated himself from the world because of his deformity.  His scars run deeper than the physical.

Isabella’s hard-hearted father, The Earl of Upperton, has decided it’s time she marry.  He’s desperately in need of money for his heir, Anthony.  He sells Isabella in marriage.  He has chosen, none other, than the scarred Duke of Coldwell.  Believing Elliot a monster, Isabella’s frighten to death.  Forced into the marriage by her father, Isabella finds Elliot’s face frightful;  on one side would frighten children, and the other, win any woman’s hand in England.  So begins the marriage of Elliot and Isabella.  Will Isabella be able to overlook Elliot’s scars to see the true man inside?  Can Elliot let go of his guilt to live life to the fullest with Isabella?  Can this marriage survive it’s flawed beginnings?  Will love bloom between these two people in need of love and security?  My Regency romance book reviews of A Beauty For The Scarred Duke follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

A Beauty For The Scarred Duke‘s filled with intense emotion and a touch of mysteryBarton skillfully wove into the story-line how Elliot’s scarred;  holding it close to the chest and revealing details only when necessary.  Barton added a touch of  mystery with the ruined tower.  Through descriptive and skillful writing, I could feel Isabella’s fear of Elliot and her evolving regard.  I could see Elliot’s scars and the burned tower.  As well as, his home and the beautiful grounds in my mind’s eye.

Barton slowly developed the bond between Elliot and Isabella.  She gave them time to know each other and accept what could

Raffles To Rattles By Stacy Eaton

The Celebration Series Book 8

Raffles to Rattles
Raffles to Rattles

STORY-LINE RAFFLES TO RATTLES BY STACY EATON:

In author Stacy Eaton’s latest book, Raffles To Rattles, book 8 of the Celebration Series, we find Sophia Thayer and Scott Allen, battling each other and their situation.  Sophia won a date with Scott at the Valentine’s Day Auction.  After a short relationship, they went separate ways, except for one explosive intense night on Mother’s Day.

Sophia, in need of money for house repairs and students loans, applies to dance at the new gentleman’s club in town.  Sophia, once an exotic dancer and hired on her first night, is horrified to find Scott and his friends in the audience.  But that’s just her first surprise.  The gentleman’s club owner, Quinn Monroe, has taken a liking to Sophia;  after throwing up for days Sophia receives a huge surprise courtesy of a pg test stick, and Scott’s insisting on marriage.  To say Scott frowns on her dancing would be an understatement; he feels anger, jealousy, and shame.

Can Sophia and Scott find a middle ground in which work out their love life?  Will Scott ever realize dancing does not make Sophia a bad person nor the dancing unsavory?   The road to love is rocky filled with pit falls and holes.  My review for romance novel, Raffles To Rattles, follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Once again, Stacy Eaton, created another wonderful chapter in the life of Celebration’s citizens.  In Raffles to Rattles, book 8, we find relationship shy Sophia paired with Scott who desires love, marriage, and children.  Sophia’s childhood left her wary of marriage and all its trappings.  Sophia’s growth was progressive as she came to understand what she really wanted. As a result, beginning to trust Scott, she opens up to life’s possibilities.

High Country Spring Las Morenas #3 by Genevieve Turner

high country spring

Hunky Cowboy

Independent Woman

A Mercantile Marriage

Story Line:

Franny Morena is one of the heirs to the Morena Ranch; her father has spoiled her by allowing her to work by his side in total disregard to societies rules of the day.  Her brother Juan, will take over the leadership role once their father retires.

Franny knows no fear and will not fit into the mold that her family and the ranch foreman Felipe desire.  Felipe has set himself as Franny’s protector, watching over her in secret to keep her from harm of her own obstinate ways.

She wants to work the ranch; to use her abilities, Franny can run the ranch as well as any man.

From the first few page author, Genevieve Turner, created a character in Felipe that has a big problem he would deny if confronted.   He’s attracted to Franny and he knows he can never fit into her life.

He is on the outside looking in, sitting at the table but never sleeping in the big house, always the hired hand never the son.  Ms. Turner gave us a look at class distinction in 1903, but this was overcome by Ms. Turner as the story progressed.  Neither will he admit that he is close to loving Franny.
