STORY-LINE LILY BY ANNA K. PAYNE:

Lily’s life is a mess.  A single mother, with two children and pregnant again, married and divorced three times, and working a low paying job;  then to top it off, she sees a man murdered on the beach.  Not only did she see the murder, the murderer saw her, and he’s trying to kill her.  Then add in Ramon, the life guard who saved her when a waterspout came on land just after the murder.  Ramon, unknown to Lily, is an undercover cop. Rude, cold, and distant to Lily, Ramon finds himself attracted to her.  He has past issues with relationships which impact his perception of Lily.

Lily’s trying to get her life together, attending church and Planted meeting with her new friend, Rose.  How can God love her?  She has made mistake after mistake, and made bad choices, she thought God could not possibly love or want her.  Through study with Rose and the Planted group, Lily finds a miracle.  My contemporary Christian suspense book review of Lily follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Filled with suspense, danger, and action packed, Lily’s a wonderful inspiring story of Lily, a killer bent on doing her in, and the forgiving grace of God.  Payne expertly shows the reader the salvation plan and God’s love for man through her story of Lily.  A clean, sweet, emotional read, filled with wonderful scriptures, sage advice, suspense, and a driven killer, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.  I could feel Lily’s unbelief that God could love and care for her; as well as, her feelings of unworthiness.  Her fear of Jonesy’s palpable as he repeatedly tries to kill her.  I have to say, he’s one determined man!  A powerful story and wonderful message;  with a group of women who become knit together in love for each other and God.

In His Brother’s Bride by George H. Lyla answers Glen’s letter; monies are sent to pay her way west, and off she goes on what she thought would be an adventure.  Lyla thought everything would be wonderful, a fine adventure ending in marriage and love for her and Glen.  Lyla’s outgoing, talkative, and adventurous.  Glen’s beyond shy; cold, rude and closed off, he’s unable to talk comfortably to people, especially women; he would rather be on the farm plowing or with the animals and plants.

When his twin brother, Greg, absent for four years, shows up as the stage comes in, his mother knows there’s going to be trouble.  These two have always tried to out do each other.  Greg’s tired of the cowboy life, he’s ready to start his own ranch, and maybe start a family.  He’s immediately smitten with Lyla when she comes off the stage.  Glen, plowing at the farm, didn’t even bother to come meet the stage to Lyla’s horror.  Taking to her to supper, at his mother insistence, he’s uncommunicative and rude.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

I found this story well-written and entertaining.  Fisher created a first class romance suspense mystery.  Her writing is clear, concise, and easy to follow, as well as, containing scenes which transition smoothly.  Fisher keep the mystery and suspense at high peak and did not reveal the murderer until the last possible moment.  With several suspects, I did not guess the correct culprit.

The Miracle Ship By Brian O’Hare

NON FICTION-TRUE STORY

The Miracle Ship: Conversations with John Gillespie
The Miracle Ship: Conversations with John Gillespie

THE MIRACLE SHIP BY BRIAN O’HARE:

A wonderful book of courage and deep abiding faith, The Miracle Ship, is a must for Christian and non Christian alike.  The life of a deeply faithful man, John Gillespie, who endured pain unimaginable, and prayed unceasingly for healing.  He discovered we must believe the miracle will be manifested before God will show his power.

Gillespie believes praying and begging unending will not force God to manifest healing until we believe without a shadow of doubt and know the miracle has occurred; even if we have not seen it yet.  Gillespie’s understanding and faith grew as he’s tormented by pain; given no hope from doctors, the Great Physician perfected Gillespie’s miracle.  Gillespie believes Satan’s always ready to place doubt in our minds, he states must hold fast to God’s promise and never stop praying, fasting, and believing.

“ask in faith with no doubting: James 1:6”

Gillespie found God test and tries each of us.  In this testing, we become stronger and have a deeper abiding faith in God.  Resisting God’s call to a healing ministry, Gillespie found he could not ignore God’s plan for him.  He would receive gifts of the Holy Spirit and much more.  When his child’s deviled by Satan, he came to understand God was teaching him of demons. He also discovered he could not fight God’s will; he must surrender his life to God’s plans.  From this point his life was never the same; he must do the work God planned for him.

Gillespie performed many miracles through Jesus Our Savior, healing many immediately, others manifested later.  For it was not him performing these miracles, but God in his infinite power and mercy.   Regardless of what we are fervently asking him to heal, God decides what will be healed and when to manifest the healing. Gillespie believes we must remove all stumbling blocks which stop God’s healing such as unforgiveness, guilt, resentment, contempt, past hurts, grudges, or bitterness.

A Texas Christmas by by Cecil, Dooley, Franklin, Griffin, Hake, Y’Barbo

Book Review

The book has 6 of the sweetest, wonderful, and clean, in some cases hilarious, romances I have ever read.

The first book Here Cooks the Bride by Cathy Marie Hake takes place in 1879; a hilarious romance between a young woman Lacey, and the local blacksmith Jeff, in Cut Corners, a small town in Texas. She came to a texas christmastown to help her sick aunt, who is a miserable cook, with her diner. Between every swain in town wanting to marry her for her cooking, the 4 old men, retired Texas Rangers,  that founded the town plotting to keep her in town to cook at the diner, and Jeff teaching her to make real Texas chili I laughed and laughed. This was a treat to read.  Watching Jeff and Lacey fall in love was a joy. This was a clean Christian read with strong Christian values.

The 2nd book A Christmas Chronicle by Pamela Griffin takes place in Cut Corners, Texas again in 1881. The four Meddin’ Old Men are at it again, this time trying to marry off Stone’s nephew Travis to Vivian who is clumsy and awkward.  Travis
