STORY-LINE THE SHIFTER’S NANNY BY T. S. RYDER

In The Shifter’s Nanny, we find Rose Doctor applying for a nanny position for the first time in five years.  After leaving an emotionally abusive relationship, Rose needs a job, and she has a degree in childcareArriving at Devon McGullicuddy’s for an interview, Rose finds the handsome panther shifter needs a nanny for his baby girl.  Neither of them is looking for a relationship or love.  However, fate has different ideas.

As their relationship builds, an old trauma in the form of a rabid stalker will appear on the scene to throw a monkey wrench into the works.  Come along with Rose and Devon as they fight their feelings, fight an evil stalker, and find a love which was worth waiting upon.  My shifter romance book reviews of The Shifter’s Nanny follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Firstly, let me say, how much I enjoyed this short, intense book.  Most shifter novels are full of explicit sex; I must commend T. S. Ryder for using prose rather than sex to sell this story.  Secondly, although a love scene does occur, it is tasteful and well-written without being offensive.

With twists and turns, Ryder kept my attention as she led me through Rose and Devon’s journey.   Setting a fast pace which remained smooth throughout, I became enmeshed in Ryder‘s shifter world.  With an original concept of humans and shifters living side by side, I found this refreshing as most novels have the shifters hidden from humans.

The Dowager’s Mail Order Husband By Helen Christian

(The Annville Mail Order Brides Book 1)

The Dowager's Mail Order Husband
The Dowager’s Mail Order Husband

STORY-LINE THE DOWAGER’S MAIL ORDER HUSBAND BY HELEN CHRISTIAN:

The Dowager’s Mail Order Husband is a heart-wrenching emotional story.  Mary Hedgepeth’s life has been abuse, drudgery, pain, and want.  After the death of her abusive husband, Mary’s thrown out of the big house into a cabin. She is now a widower and a dowager.  Here Mary tries to forge a life for herself.  She has no idea how to farm or grow her food.  She is barely hanging on.

When her husband’s brother, Richard, comes home, she’s frightened but also attracted to this handsome, kind man.  Richard is the opposite of his contemptuous brother.  Richard is a kind godly man who finds in Mary everything he has ever wanted.

Will Richard and Mary be able to overcome the abuse she has suffered?  Can happy ever after exist for Mary?  What does God have in store for Mary and Richard?  Grab a comfortable seat, my Christian historical romance book reviews of The Dowager’s Mail Order Husband follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Although a short novella, I found this book satisfying.  Novellas are different from their parent the novel, as they can not explore the depth of emotion and story-line of the more extended novel.  However, Christian filled this book with feeling from the first pages.  I could feel Mary’s desperation and fear as she faced a long winter and then Richard, an unknown element added to her life.  I could feel her want as she came to know the goodness of Richard.

Haven On The Riverwalk
Haven On The Riverwalk

STORY-LINE HAVEN ON THE RIVERWALK BY EILEEN CRUZ COLEMAN:

Maggie’s on the run from her life in New York.  Missing her bus in Soloman’s Island, unsure what she’s going to do, she found a hero in Dustin.  Dustin, the small community of Soloman’s Island, and Dustin’s sister, give Maggie has a second chance at life.  At the speed of lightning, Dustin and Maggie fall for each other.  But Maggie’s past does not stay in the past as it comes back to haunt her.  My romance book reviews of Haven On The Riverwalk follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Although a short story of 48 pages, I found Haven On The Riverwalk a satisfying romance filled with danger and mysteryAuthors can not develop in-depth characters or story-lines in a short story as they can in a novel.  Everything, including the ending, in a short story or novella happens quickly without the slow and full development of a novel.  However, Coleman did a good job with premise, structure, and plot with this romance.  I found the plot and mystery intriguing, the suspense held at high peak,

STORY-LINE HEART ON THE LINE BY KAREN WITEMEYER:

In Heart On The Line by author Karen Witemeyer, we find Grace Mallory telegraph operator,  on the run after her father is murdered; she lands in Harper’s Station.  Continuing to work as a telegraph operator, she begins dotting and dashing with Amos Bledsoe. As their friendship grows so do their feelings for each other.  When notified the villain who murdered her father has found her, Grace knows she has to tell the town;  for evil is on the way.  Grace anguishes over the fact they might be in jeopardy.

Amos is not very handsome and rides a bicycle rather than a horse.  He’s seen as an oddity to the women in his community; he wants Grace to see him as a man worth knowing and possibility loving.  Will he rush to Grace’s side or stay in his quite safe town?  What will Grace see when she first lays eyes on Amos?  My romance book review of Heart On The Line follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Heart on the Line, by author Karen Witemeyer, entertains and enthrall the reader from the first pages.  She grabbed me immediately; I could not read fast enough.  A sweet clean romance filled with mystery, grief, love, faith, and strength, the reader finds two romances in this book.

Witemeyer’s characters live in an all woman town, Harper’s Station; the sheriff and goods transporter the only men allowed.  I loved how the town, filled with women, supported and loved each other as family.   What a unique and original job Whitimeyer gave Grace.  Whitimeyer included the inequity of pay and positions for women during this time period.

Caged: A Psychological Thriller By Onaiza Khan

Winner of the story peak contest, this is the brand new psychological thriller from India’s upcoming author Onaiza Khan

Caged by Khan
Caged, Cover

STORY-LINE CAGED:

Author Onaiza Khan’s novel Caged  billed as a psychological thriller novel, is without question more.  Kidnapped by her new husband and kept locked in her room for three months, she begins to lose touch with reality.   She remembers abuse, hurting, and hearing another person screams of terror and pain.

What is real and what is not?  There is more to her story than appears on the surface.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, AND DEVELOPMENT:

Although not my cup of tea, I can without hesitation state the author developed the characters, varied story-lines, and for a new author the writing was well-done.  I did not find the editing problems mentioned in other reviews.  Also, the pace of story was in line with the length of the novel.

With a variety of characters, an original story-line and the correct audience, Caged will be a hit.  Nothing is as it seems in the beginning of the story.  The author keeps the reader guessing about who

A Different Point of View Story Book 1

When Leaves Fall
When Leaves Fall

STORY-LINE WHEN LEAVES FALL BY C. A. KING:

A short read of 56 pages, When Leaves Fall, is an intense read.  Ralph wakes in a place he does recognize. His vision’s cloudy and he’s disoriented.   Ralph realizes he’s in a poorly constructed shack, and of all things, he’s chained allowing him limited movement. He can vaguely remember his family and he knows they will search for him when they realize what has happened.  For love is a two-way street;  he loves them and they love him.

As days pass, Ralph’s beaten, he’s hungry, cold, in pain, and begins to doubt his memories.  My reviews of contemporary book, When Leaves Fall, follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Do not let the page count of this short book fool you.  Although short in pages, it’s packed with emotion from the first page to the last page; it packs a huge punch and will leave you emotionally spent.  My tears started almost immediately as I read of the abuse Ralph endured from his unknown assailant.  I quickly became emotionally involved in the story-line.  For such a short story, King skillfully packed as much emotion and story into the 56 pages as a lot of writers can produce in a full novel.  It takes skill to produce an intelligent, well-developed, and well-paced story in 56 pages; King managed this feat well.
