CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:
Long Journey Home’s a sweet contemporary romance filled with angst and family dynamics. None us want to let down our parent, Johnson shows how unnecessary our worries. As Holly found in Long Journey Home, parents love unconditionally even when we think they’re disappointed.
Johnson also showed, sometimes what we think we want in life is not really what we want at all. She also included faith and prayer in this story. Holly’s family had a deep faith in God and his direction for our lives. Her mother gave here excellent advice of prayer and listening to God for direction in her life. Revealing how God will answer when we ask, Holly finally found she could pray and talk to God. Holly’s journey home was long indeed, however, she found her faith again and a forever love; the wait was worth the results.
Although faith’s included, Johnson does not push or force religion down the reader’s throat, rather, faith’s part of her characters life. I found the romance sweet between Holly and Spencer. Johnson had no need of fluff or sex to fill the pages of this book, as her characters carried the premise. With skillful plotting, pacing in line with the length of the story, and well-developed characters, I enjoyed my time spent with Holly and this cast of characters. I would not hesitate to buy this book for a friend.
